U12 · Tactical program · 2015 and 2016 birth years
U12 ski racing in Park City, Utah.
U12 is where racing becomes a sport. Tactical athletes train five days a week, race the IMD South Series, and review video and real-time data between runs, with six athletes to a coach.

Who it’s for
Where a U12 fits at ARC.
Tactical is typically U12, 2015 and 2016 birth years (as of January 1, 2027), by invitation from the U10 Red Group or by video review for athletes joining ARC. Group size is capped at 18 and coached at 6:1. In 2025/26 this group finished #1 in the IMD South Series and produced the Boys U12 overall season champion.
Placement is by skill, strength and maturity, not strictly by birth year, and groups are re-evaluated as athletes grow. Not sure? Send a short video; thirty seconds of free skiing tells our coaches more than any form.
How the season is built
A U12 week at ARC.
- Three to four gate-training days and one to two free-ski and drill days each week; pre-season dryland from Labor Day, continuing one day a week in season.
- The IMD South Series: Utah Olympic Park, Beaver Mountain and Snowbird, then IMD Finals and the IMD U12 Championships in March, and the Spring Fling in April.
- Group sports psychology, included: handling a DNF, staying composed in the start, resetting after a bad first run.
- On-hill video from our video analyst and Protern.io real-time data, reviewed between runs. The Protern sensor is purchased through ARC; ARC carries the cellular and data plan for every team device. Two to three off-season camp opportunities at a team discount.
Technology on the hill
Video and real-time data, reviewed between runs.
Our on-hill video analyst films on skis and tags each run; Protern.io sensors add speed, time and line within seconds of the finish. Athlete and coach review both before the next run, and runs can be compared side by side across the season.

U12 questions
What races does a U12 do at ARC?
The IMD South Series (three stops plus IMD Finals), the IMD U12 Championships in March, and the Spring Fling in April. See the calendar for dates and official race announcements.
How is a U12 placed?
By skill, strength and maturity rather than strictly by birth year. Athletes come up from the U10 Red Group or, if new to ARC, send a short video and meet the coaches on snow.
What does Protern.io cost a family?
The sensor is purchased through ARC and is not included in tuition. ARC carries the cellular membership and data plan for every team device, and the video review is part of the program.
